Bubbles, large and small, captivate crowd at library

SHARON — On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon presented Bubblemania with Casey Carle. The program was part of the state’s fifth annual Take Your Child to the Library Day.

Carle kept the audience of 16 children and 17 adults enthralled as he made bubbles of all sizes and jokes of all kinds while swing music played in the background.

He asked if the audience would like to see a square bubble. When they answered yes, he explained that there are no square bubbles, all bubbles are round.

He proceeded to demonstrate this using a cube that he filled with a special bubble formula he said he has developed over many years of bubble making.

He made bubbles with bubble wands large and small, he used beads and string to make bubbles, he made long chains of bubbles, an ice cream cone of bubbles, and a planet bubble with its own ring of bubbles orbiting around it.

He had a machine that pumped air into bubbles, making them appear more solid and visible.

While doing all this bubble making, he kept up a steady stream of jokes and information, suggesting the children go online to www.bubblemania.com and www.casey-carle.com.

On the websites are recipes for bubble formulas and ideas for bubbles, which he encouraged the children to experiment with.

For his finale, Casey asked for a child to volunteer to assist him. He proceeded to make a giant bubble with the child inside.
