Carol A. Collette

AMENIA — Carol A. Collette, 69, a longtime area resident, died May 9, 2011. She made her home in Wassaic for many years and recently lived in Amenia. She was most recently a resident of The Kent nursing home.Carol was born on March 15, 1942, in Potsdam, N.Y. She was raised in Malone and Chateaugay, N.Y. She graduated from Chateaugay Central High School in 1961. She went to work at the Wassaic Developmental Center in 1966 and retired with 21 years of service as a therapy aide.Carol was a beloved member of Greater Grace Community Church in Dover Plains. One of her greatest joys was to attend church and fellowship with her church family.She is survived by her brothers, William R. Collette and his wife, Dolores, of Harvey, La., and Walter W. Collette Jr. and his wife,Vicki, of San Diego, Calif.; her sister-in-law, Lynn Collette, of Tonawanda, N.Y.; one niece and four nephews; and five great-nephews.In addition to her church family at Greater Grace Community Church, who loved her very much, Carol, also known as “Grandma-3,” is survived by Jared Robert and Sarah Grace Witt of Millbrook and Adrienne Leigh Witt of Amenia and Baltimore, Md.; and was beloved “GG” to Selah Elizabeth Jane and Kailyn Ruth Witt of Millbrook. Also surviving is her friend and sister-in-the-Lord, Barbara K. Witt of Amenia; and many friends in the local area and throughout the United States and overseas. She was predeceased by her father, Walter W. Collette, in 1998; her mother, Rita Marie Collette, in 2001; and her oldest brother, Richard W. Collette, in 2000.A memorial service was held at Greater Grace Community Church on Route 22 in Dover Plains on May 12 officiated by her friend and pastor, the Rev. Gary E. Witt. Burial will be at the Holy Name Cemetery in Tupper Lake, N.Y., at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Carol’s memory to Greater Grace Community Church — Children of Grace (a worldwide ministry for orphans) at GGCC, PO Box 68, Dover Plains, NY 12522.
