Charles Barnard Gill

NORFOLK — Charles Barnard Gill, 61, passed away on July 29, 2018, in Norfolk.  

He was born Oct. 2, 1956, in Bronxville, N.Y., to Anne and Brendan Gill.  

Charlie  graduated from Tufts University in 1978 and Oxford University in 1981 with a Masters of Philosophy in English Literature.  

He is survived by his beloved  daughter, Isabel Faith Gill, 15; and his six older siblings, Brenda Gill, Michael Gill, Holly Gill, Madeleine Gill, Rosemary Gill  and Kate Gill. 

He is the author of “The Boozer Challenge,” a novel published in 1987. He moved to Los Angeles in 1988, where he married Ellen Maxted in 1990. 

Charlie was an executive director for the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealer Association for  many years. He had recently returned to Norfolk, where he had spent many idyllic childhood summers.  

Charlie’s life was filled with kindness, creativity, humor and a thirst for knowledge.  

His family and friends gathered for a celebration of life in Norfolk on Aug. 4.

CANAAN — Anita L. (King) Gochey, 85, of 77 South Canaan Rd. died June 5, 2026, at Geer Village. She was the wife of the late Lester Gochey. Anita was born July 16, 1940,in Winsted, daughter of the late Ivan and Irene (Dulude) King.

Anita was well known throughout the Northwest Corner. She worked for many local businesses and organizations. Anita worked at the Rexall Drug Store, C.A. Lindell and Sons, Bob’s Clothing, Brooks Pharmacy, and the Housatonic Valley Regional High School in the cafeteria.She used her skills in calligraphy to complete the record books for the North Canaan Congregational Church.Anita’s daughter remembers her as being very creative with cardboard, and a loving mom.
