Daniel J. Sullivan

SHARON — Daniel J. Sullivan, 79, husband of Mary C. Farrell of Madison, Conn., passed away on Oct. 14, 2018, due to complications of pancreatic cancer. His family was by his side. 

He grew up in Stoughton, Mass., and attended Stoughton High School. In 1961, he graduated from Harvard University and earned his law degree at Columbia Law School in 1964. 

He practiced law as a litigator for 50 years in New York City. He worked at Paul, Weiss, Rifkin, Wharton & Garrison; the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York under Robert M. Morgenthau and Whitney North Seymour Jr.; Lovejoy, Wasson, Lundgren & Ashton; his own firm Murray, Hollander, Sullivan & Bass; and Christry & Viener (which later merged with Salans). Dan loved vividly and dramatically recounting his intriguing cases. 

He biked, skied, ran, played tennis and gardened in Sharon from 1973 to 1995. He loved sailing; in 1978, he crossed the Atlantic Ocean from Long Island to the Azores off the coast of Portugal in 17 days in a 32-foot sailboat with three friends. He was also passionate about history. He was famous for his charming Boston accent, quick smile, eagerness to help others, and easy manner. 

Dan was very engaged with his daughter Monique (Sullivan) Lowitt of Sharon and London, and her husband, Ian Lowitt, and his granddaughters, Natasha and Sabina; and his son, Gregory Sullivan of New York City and Barryville, N.Y., and his husband, David Riley. He warmly welcomed into his life his stepchildren, Stephen Rahl, Kaitlin (Rahl) Brandt and her husband, Nicholas Brandt, and grandchildren James, Lila and Finn. He is also survived by two sisters, two brothers and their spouses.

SHARON — Sharon Dennis Rosen, 83, died on Aug. 8, 2025, in New York City.

Born and raised in Sharon, Connecticut, she grew up on her parents’ farm and attended Sharon Center School and Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She went on to study at Skidmore College before moving to New York City, where she married Dr. Harvey Rosen and together they raised two children.

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
