Double the farm-fresh fun in Cornwall

CORNWALL — Again this summer, lovers of farmers markets will have two to enjoy in Cornwall, both in full swing from May through October, and both offering farm-fresh delights to patrons who come to look, buy or just visit with friends, neighbors and new acquaintances.

The original Cornwall Farm Market is open Saturdays on the lawn at the Wish House in West Cornwall (near the Covered Bridge) between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Visitors can park and stroll around the village, enjoy the river and find items tasty and intriguing at the market.

Some of the vendors this year will offer fresh goat cheese, savory and sweet baked goods, vegetarian Indian food, jams, jellies and preserves, flowers and plants and fresh eggs.

“Watch us grow,” said Bianka Griggs, organizer of the market. She says she is really happy with the progress.

“Such beautiful people are part of it,” she added.

Anticipating the September construction work scheduled for the Covered Bridge, Griggs promised, “We will be here.”

Simultaneously, a short drive to the Cornwall town Green will bring visitors to the Cornwall Co-op Farm Market, with additional choices of food and other goods.

Now in its second year, this market (which is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays) has six vendors who will offer fresh beef, lamb and pork, all from Cornwall, baked goods, herbal products, sheepskins and wool, Cornwall maple syrup, and herbs, vegetables and other produce.

As crops mature at area farms, fresh produce will be there in abundance. The first offerings will be lettuce, spinach and radishes.

Among the non-edible attractions, there will be a vendor selling artisanal handblown glass; other specialty items will be available throughout the season.

Both markets keep their Facebook pages up to date. Go to Cornwall Farm Market at www.cornwallfarmmarket.org for information about the original farm market.

Go to Cornwall Coop Farm Market on Facebook for information about the market on the town Green, or go to www.cornwallcoopfarmarket.com.

Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
