Dutchess Day School Soccer Tournament helps charity

MILLBROOK — The Dutchess Day School hosted its annual 7-a-side soccer tournament to raise money for charity on Friday, Sept. 25.

Participants in the tournament were 11 regional schools, including Dutchess Day School along with Mizzentop, Washington Montessori, Faith Christian Academy, Rudolph Steiner School, Trinity Pawling, Rumsey Hall, Poughkeepsie Day, Woodstock Day, Kildonan and Indian Mountain School.

The teams played in one of two divisions — fifth/sixth grades and seventh/eighth grades. After a series of 20-minute elimination games, ending with semi-finals and a final, both Dutchess Day School teams won their divisions this year. Funds were raised via tournament enrollment, a 50/50 raffle, and a bake sale run by the Dutchess Day Parents Association.

The winners of the raffle donated their proceeds back to the fundraiser, bringing the total for the raffle to $250. The bake sale raised $913 and the tournament itself yielded $240 after a few minor expenses. The $1,403 raised will be split between the Poughkeepsie homeless shelter, Hillcrest House and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Vanessa Park is director of development,  alumni affairs and communications for Dutchess Day School.
