East End fountain gets facelift

WINSTED — This week, the town will put out to bid a project to restore the water fountain located at East End Park. According to Department of Public Works Director James Rotondo, the intent of the project is to restore the fountain to its condition when it was constructed in 1883.“They will restore masonry and stone work around the fountain,” Rotondo said. “Also, they will be putting in a system that will recycle the water in the fountain. We will add a set of lights to the basin to light it up so it will look good at night.” Rotondo said he expects work to the fountain to be completed by September. He did not have an estimate for how much the total project will cost. “From my perspective, this is the last piece of the puzzle in the park to be restored,” Rotondo said. “This is the last thing to rehab to make the park complete.”
