Eleanor L. Cahill

PINE PLAINS —Eleanor L. Cahill, 79, died peacefully with her loving family by her side on March 26, 2014, at Sharon Hospital.On April 14, 1953, in Salisbury, she married Bill J. Cahill. He survives her at home.She was born in North Canaan on Feb. 4, 1935, the daughter of Joel Carpenter Sr. and Marguerite (Speed) Richter.Mrs. Cahill retired from Sharon Hospital after working more than 30 years in various positions. Most recently she worked for Dr. Charles S. Mirabile Jr. in Sharon. In addition to her loving husband Bill, she is survived by three daughters, Deborah Robertson and her husband, John, of Timberlake, N.C., Sharon Nihill and her husband, Ron, of Naugatuck, Conn., and Teresa Cummings and her husband, Rich, of Pine Plains; two sons, Jerry Cahill of Pine Plains and Mike Cahill and his wife, Celita, of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn McLane of Port Orange, Fla., Lila Cahill of Bristol, Conn., and Connie Hess of Poughkeepsie.She was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Carpenter; and a brother, Joel Carpenter Jr.A funeral service was held March 29 at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains. It takes a lot of courage to share your art for the first time and Marilyn Hock is taking that leap with her debut exhibition at Sharon Town Hall on Sept. 12. A realist painter with a deep love for wildlife, florals, and landscapes, Hock has spent the past few years immersed in watercolor, teaching herself, failing forward, and returning again and again to the page. This 18-piece collection is a testament to courage, practice and a genuine love for the craft.

“I always start with the eyes,” said Hock of her animal portraits. “That’s where the soul lives.” This attentiveness runs through her work, each piece rendered with care, clarity, and a respect for the subtle variations of color and light in the natural world.
