Eleanor May (Twing) Morey

SALISBURY — Eleanor May (Twing) Morey died Aug. 17, 2017. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard J. Morey. Mrs. Morey was born March 29, 1937, in Salisbury to Myrtle and Frank Twing.   

She was predeceased by two sons, Richard Allen Morey and William John Morey; and two grandsons, Richard Lee Morey and Rick Lachevette. 

In addition to her husband, she is  survived by her children, Trina Whitbeck and her husband, Peter, Karen More, and David Morey and his wife, Cathy; and her 10 siblings, Frank Twing, Roberta Tanner and her husband, Arthur, Gloria Fifield, Robert Twing and his wife, Aleta, Beverly Snyder and her husband, Jimmy,  Hollis McNulty and her husband, Steve, Reginald Twing, Priscilla Stevens and her husband, Roger, Janice Lang and her husband, Tom, and Gilbert Twing and his wife, Patty; and her grandchildren, Katie Suriner and her husband, Jacques, CJ Leone, David Whitbeck and his wife, Jen, Jesse Morey and his wife, Alison, John Sugrue, Elea Bathrick, Logan Morey and Destiny, and Spenser Morey; and her much loved great-grandchildren.

Eleanor will always be remembered for her loving nature, forgiving heart and kind soul.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at North East Baptist Church in Millerton, followed by interment at Salisbury Cemetery.

From research to recognition: Student project honors pioneering Black landowner

Cornwall Consolidated School seventh graders Skylar Brown, Izabella Coppola, Halley Villa, Willow Berry, Claire Barbosa, Willa Lesch, Vivianne DiRocco and Franco Aburto presented a group research project on the life of Naomi Freeman Wednesday, April 23. In attendance were U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Conn., John Mills, president of Alex Breanne Corporation, Cornwall First Selectman Gordon Ridgway, Cornwall Selectman Jennifer Markow and CCS social studies teacher Will Vincent.

CORNWALL — “In Cornwall you have made the decision that everyone here matters and everyone’s story is important,” said U.S. Rep. Jahana Hayes, D-Waterbury, to the seventh grade class at Cornwall Consolidated School April 23.

Hayes was in attendance to celebrate history on Wednesday as the CCS students presented their group research project on the life of Naomi Cain Freeman, the first Black female landowner in Cornwall.
