Everett S. ‘Bub’ Pitcher

SHARON — Everett S. “Bub” Pitcher, 103, passed away Oct 4, 2019, at Noble Horizons in Salisbury. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth (Callahan) Pitcher.

He was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Sharon, the son of the late Elizabeth and Everett F. Pitcher. He lived most of his life in Sharon.

He was a World War II Army veteran, a Sharon fireman and a member of the Sharon Legion. 

Heowned the Gulf gas station for many years, until his retirement. 

He loved to golf, read, fish, watch old movies and go for his annual bus trips to the casino.

He was predeceased by his son, Stephen Pitcher.

He leaves behind his two grandsons, Edward Pitcher and his wife, Cindy, of Canonsburg, Pa., and their children Ashley, Ryan, Hayley and Bryan Pitcher and his wife, Laura, of Torrington, and their son Riley; a sister, Mary Faith Boice of Ancram, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. 

He was also predeceased by his brothers, Daniel and Jerome Pitcher; and his sisters, Leontine Pitcher, Loretta Whitbeck, Janet Funai, Anne Whalen, Priscilla Platt, Patricia Gillette and Barbara McEnroe.

He was loved by all who knew him.

 A memorial service will be held at St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sharon American Legion.

The family wants to thank everyone who helped with his care in the last few years of his life. 

Arrangements were handled by the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.

The school's girls and boys teams were named league champions after finishing the regular season with the best win/loss records. Winning the tournaments earned each team a plaque and added to the program's success in 2025.

Día de los Muertos marks a bittersweet farewell for Race Brook Lodge

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
