Gilbert Lisle Jobe

WASSAIC — Gilbert Lisle Jobe, 98, a longtime resident of Wassaic, died Oct. 4, 2018, at The Pines at Catskill in Catskill, N.Y. Mr. Jobe was a dairy farmer and owned and operated Rillside Farm in Wassaic. 

Born on Feb. 4, 1920, in Indiana, Pa., he was the son of the late Clair Gilbert and Viola Imogene (Carnahan) Jobe. Mr. Jobe was a graduate of Indiana Public School and Long Island Agricultural and Technical Institute in Farmingdale, N.Y. 

On Oct. 27, 1940, he married Evelyn Kathryn Thomas, who predeceased him on June 1, 1997. 

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. 

Mr. Jobe was a member of the Cornell Co-operative Extension in Millbrook and an honorary member of the FFA. He was also a member of the American Field Service Student Exchange Program, was on the Board of Directors for the Dutchess Land Conservancy and a former member of the Webutuck Grange. He was a recipient of the New York State Dairy of Distinction Award from 1982-1989. 

Mr. Jobe was a member and elder at the South Amenia Presbyterian Church and was a former Board of Directors member of the South Amenia Union Society. He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 1 in Albany, N.Y.

Mr. Jobe is survived by his daughter-in-law, Dianne Lewis of Medusa, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Cynthia Jobe-Parker of Australia; and two great-granddaughters, Asley Jobe-Parker and Daisy Jobe-Parker, both of Australia. 

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Jobe was predeceased by a son, Gilbert Jobe Jr. in 1989; two sisters, Helen Keiren and Jane Bence; and two brothers, Lynn and Wilbur Jobe. 

Graveside services and burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11, at the South Amenia Cemetery in Wassaic, the Rev. Zora Ficarra-Cheatham officiating. 

Memorial donations may be made to the South Amenia Union Society, 229 South Amenia Road, Wassaic, NY 12592.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.

Local writer shares veterans’ stories in Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Medal of Honor’ podcast

SHARON, Conn. — After 20 years as a magazine editor with executive roles at publishing giants like Condé Nast and Hearst, Meredith Rollins never imagined she would become the creative force behind a military history podcast. But today, she spends her days writing about some of the most heroic veterans in United States history for “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” a podcast produced by Malcolm Gladwell’s company, Pushkin Industries.

From her early days in book publishing to two decades in magazines and later a global content strategist for Weight Watchers, Rollins has built a long and varied career in storytelling.

Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.
