The Gilbert School holds open house

WINSTED — The Gilbert School held an open house event on Thursday, Sept. 18, giving parents an opportunity to meet teachers and learn more about the school’s programs, according to Principal Alan Strauss.

“It’s an opportunity for our parents to come together to meet their children’s teachers,” Strauss said. “It’s a way to start to develop a relationship that’s not just about grades and behavior. This is a way to start a collaboration so we can help students with their education and future.”

One of the teachers on hand at the open house was business teacher Melissa Sieffert.

Sieffert has been teaching at Gilbert for over a year and previously taught at Crosby School in Waterbury.

“These are the best students I have ever taught,” Sieffert said. “They are wonderful because they give back to the community and they are great at managing things. I manage the school store with them and they do a wonderful job. To me, Gilbert is a close knit family.”
