Girl Scouts create video book

WINSTED — Four Laurel City Girl Scouts recently completed a six-month project using digital cameras and computer software to create a video book for children at the Beardlsey and Memorial Library.

Junior Girl Scouts Shanna Shotwell, Aubrie Blass, Natalie Majewski and Pearl Gilley from Girl Scout Troop 40444 put their heads together to create the DVD, which actually features four books, “Brown Bear Brown Bear, by Bill Martin, “Horton Hears a Who, by Dr. Seuss, “Ginger Jumps, by Lisa Campbell Ernst, and “Westlandia, by Paul Fleischmann. The girls incorporated images from the books with digital audio recordings of them reading each story.

The project was part of the girls’ effort to earn the Bronze Award, which is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can attain. Girls can work individually or as a group to achieve the honor, which recognizes leadership and planning skills used to make a positive impact in the community.

A Winsted Neighborhood Awards Ceremony will be held Friday, May 1, at 7 p.m. at Town Hall to honor the achievements of local Girl Scouts, including the girls from Troop 40444.
