HG Page & Sons turns 90

Amenia — HG Page & Sons celebrated their 90th anniversary with a ribbon cutting at its Poughkeepsie location on Monday, April 28. The celebration continues with door prizes, giveaways, timed specials, games and exclusive deals at all four store locations on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.HG Page & Sons in Amenia will reach its seventh year in September. The storefront has always been in the building business, starting as Lloyd Lumber in 1968 and later becoming Dill’s Best.According to a company press release, “HG Page & Sons has been building the Hudson Valley for 90 years with ‘A Reputation Built on a Handshake.’”It continued that when doors opened in 1924, founder Henry G. Page Sr. would often make deals with customers who couldn’t pay right away with a “pay me when you can” handshake.“Much has changed in the Hudson Valley since 1924, but this local business is still family owned and operated with the same important values established since its inception,” stated the release.HG Page & Sons is located at 5291 Route 44 in Amenia, with other branches in Poughkeepsie, LaGrangeville and Pawling. On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
