Housy boys start with two wins

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School boys soccer team opened the season with two wins, a 2-1 win over Shepaug and a 4-1 win over Thomaston. In both games Housatonic controlled the ball for long stretches of the game. The boys had a hard time finishing against Shepaug, but found the goal with more confidence against Thomaston.Against Shepaug, Myles Clohessy scored the first goal of the season with a 25-yard blast that put Housatonic up 1-0. A minute and 15 seconds later, Shepaug tied the game. R.J. Thompson tallied the winning goal 37 minutes into the game. Though there were many more opportunities for the Mountaineers, they couldn’t put one more in goal. Assists in this game went to Clohessy and Matthew Matsudaira. In the Thomaston game, John Hare scored for Housatonic just a minute and 19 seconds into the game off an assist from Matsudaira. At 38 minutes, Hare scored the second goal off a corner kick from Jacob Horowitz with Thomas Gailes redirecting the ball to Hare, taking a 2-0 lead into the half. Gailes scored in the second half, as did Jose Rincon from an assist by Oliver Spelbos. Thomaston scored late in the first half, and the game ended with a 4-1 Housatonic win.In both games, Thompson, Clohessy and Wilson Terrall made several passes to set up scoring opportunities, and they combined with Andrew Davis, Steve Wingard and Hare to hold down Shepaug and Thomaston scoring opportunities. Willy Yahn in goal continued his strong play from last season to put aside most of the shots Shepaug and Thomaston took.
