Housy volleyball slaps down Mt. Everett, Lewis Mills

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School volleyball team defeated Mt. Everett, 3-1, on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Housy won game one, 25-19, game three, 25-16, and game four, 25-21. Mt. Everett took game two, 25-18.

Danielle Kearns had six aces, 15 kills, two digs and two blocks. Tara Sullivan contributed three aces, 13 kills and five blocks. Megan Williams added 17 aces and nine assists while Laura Smith put up four aces, eight kills and two blocks. Morgan Lamb had two aces and four digs.

On Oct. 13, the Housy girls beat Lewis Mills, 3-2. Housy won game one, 25-13, game three, 25-7, and game five, 15-11. Lewis Mills took game two, 25-20, and game four, 25-16.

Kearns tallied five aces, eight kills, two digs and three blocks. Cerise Taylor had four aces, five kills, two digs and two blocks. Williams contributed three aces, three kills, seven assists and four blocks and Lamb added five aces, two kills and two digs. Marie DiPinto had five aces, four kills, two digs and a block, while Erika Daigle added an ace, four kills and two blocks.

The team fell to Nonnewaug, 3-0, Thursday, Oct. 21.

For Housy, Williams had one ace, three kills and a dig. Megan Fisher contributed two kills and five digs while Danielle Kearns added two aces, two kills and three digs.

Housy falls to 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Berkshire League. Nonnewaug improved to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in the Berkshire League.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
