HVRHS girls win one, lose one

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School girls basketball team walked away with a win and a loss after road games against Terryville on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and Lewis Mills on Friday, Jan. 16.

Housy traveled to Terryville and earned a hard-fought 40-33 win in a game that was tied 20-20 going into the half. The Mountaineers were led by Chelsea Kearns with 15 points and five rebounds. Amanda Jacquier scored 11 points along with playing spectacular defense. Hannah McGuire scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Chloe Dakers contributed six points and five assists. The win brought Housy’s record to 5-5 on the season.

Three days later, the Mountaineers squared off against rival Lewis Mills. Housy led 13-7 early in the first quarter, but defensive pressure by the Spartans created numerous turnovers and the Mountaineers fell 51-24. Dakers led the team with 11 points and four rebounds while Jacquier chipped in with four points and four steals. Kearns finished with three points and four rebounds, while McGuire contributed two points, eight rebounds and four steals. The loss dropped the Mountaineers to 5-6 on the year.

After playing five of the last six games on the road, Housy returned home to face Wamogo on Tuesday, Jan. 20, after this issue went to press, and Shepaug Valley on Friday, Jan. 23. The Mountaineers only need three more wins in their final nine games to qualify for the state tournament.
