Lulia S. (Sabin) Curtis Berti

NORTH CANAAN — Lulia S. (Sabin) Curtis Berti, 85, of Granite Avenue Extension died April 18, 2008, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan.  

Mrs. Berti was the wife of Cilio Berti and the widow of Hugh D. Curtis, who died in 1960.  

She was born in Great Barrington on Jan. 29, 1923, the daughter of the late Inez (Russell) and Otho J. Sabin.

Mrs. Berti was the cafeteria manager of Salisbury Central School for 25 years. She also was employed as the tax collector for the town of Salisbury and was an assistant at the Scoville Library.

She was a member of the Salisbury Congregational Church, the Eastern Star, the Republican Women’s Club and the Salisbury Grange.

In addition to her husband Cilio of Lime Rock, Mrs. Berti is survived by her daughter, Louise A. (Curtis) Boehme of Post Falls, Idaho; her son, Hugh D. Curtis of North Canaan; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two stepchildren, Barbara Hermann of Burlington, Conn.,  and John Berti of Medfield, Mass., and their families.  

Mrs. Berti was predeceased by her granddaughter, Dawn M. Curtis.

Funeral services were held April 21. Burial was in Grassy Hill Cemetery in Falls Village. Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
