Margaret M. Rosler

North Canaan — Margaret M. Rosler, 99, died Sept. 30, 2009, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  She was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the daughter of the late Mary and Anthony Zancavage.  She was the widow of Henry M. Rosler, who died in 1964.

Margaret was an avid, lifelong reader who loved sewing, cooking and handcrafts. She was active as a library and school volunteer in New York before moving permanently to North Canaan in 1998.

She is survived by her son, Henry, her daughter-in-law, Eileen Fox, and their children, Matthew and Eliza, with whom she lived in New York City and North Canaan; and her niece, Joann Kerr and her husband, Kevin Kerr; her grandson, James Dassau; and her granddaughter, Jennifer and her husband, Gary Karlsrud, and their children, Aeva and Jaden.

Margaret was predeceased by her sisters, Frances and Agnes; her brother, Anthony; and her daughter, Germaine Dassau.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Oct. 3 at Saint Joseph’s Church in North Canaan. She was buried along side her husband in the U.S. Military Cemetery in Famingdale, Long Island.  

Arrangements were made by the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

Donations in Margaret’s name may be made to the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which cared so lovingly for her in her final years.

NEWTOWN — Housatonic Valley Regional High School's girls soccer team's state tournament run concluded in the semifinals with a 4-2 loss to Morgan High School Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The final four finish was the deepest playoff push for Housatonic since 2014. Lainey Diorio scored both goals and keeper Vi Salazar logged 10 saves in the semifinal game.

Local writer shares veterans’ stories in Malcolm Gladwell’s ‘Medal of Honor’ podcast

SHARON, Conn. — After 20 years as a magazine editor with executive roles at publishing giants like Condé Nast and Hearst, Meredith Rollins never imagined she would become the creative force behind a military history podcast. But today, she spends her days writing about some of the most heroic veterans in United States history for “Medal of Honor: Stories of Courage,” a podcast produced by Malcolm Gladwell’s company, Pushkin Industries.

From her early days in book publishing to two decades in magazines and later a global content strategist for Weight Watchers, Rollins has built a long and varied career in storytelling.

Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.
