McLaughlin honored for her work

MILLERTON — Village Treasurer and Deputy Clerk Karen McLaughlin was recently recognized by the state’s Society of Municipal Finance Officers as a Credentialed Municipal Finance Officer (CMFO), following years of service to Millerton, Millbrook, Pawling and other municipalities.

McLaughlin said she likes Millerton above the rest, which is why her five years working for the village is just the beginning of her tenure.

“I’d like to thank the Millerton community and Village Board for their trust and confidence in me and the job I do here, as the treasurer and deputy clerk, she said. “It’s been a pleasure working with [Village Clerk] Amber Jordan and we really developed a team approach to handling village business.

The accreditation program was launched in 2006 to help improve job performance and recognize professionalism of municipal finance officers.

McLaughlin said it also supports the work her office does to keep the village running smoothly.

“Millerton is a quaint and beautiful village that has encountered the same issues that the weak economy has presented to many communities, she said. “Of the many issues, we must address tightening the budget, keeping the taxes down and at the same time making much-needed infrastructure repairs and replacements. We attain this by being progressive and creative in our approach to problem solving and solution finding.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
