Memorial Day weekend races

LIME ROCK ­— Lime Rock Park, the historic mile-and-a-half racetrack, revs up its season with a variety of races and shows Memorial Day weekend, May 27 to 30. The highlights of the weekend include the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race featuring showroom stock cars on Saturday, May 28, the Royals Garage Presents the Veterans Memorial Car Show on Sunday, May 29, and the Rolex Sports Car Series and GT race on Monday, May 30. Muscle cars, tuners and imports, street rods, antiques, antique trucks, race cars and exceptional contemporaries will line the track for the Sunday car show. The show is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. There is a $10 entry fee for show cars. Admission is $5, but free to veterans and children under 12. Proceeds from the show will go to the building of the Veterans Memorial Wall in Torrington. The black granite wall will replace asbestos plaques and sit at the front entrance of Torrington City Hall.Four trophys will be awarded for People’s Pick, Royal’s Crown, Skip’s Selection and Veterans’ Vote.The Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype and GT race on May 30 will feature Daytona prototypes, Corvettes, Porsches, BMWs, Camaros and Mazda RX-8s.The Midway Cafe Food Court will feature chef Jake Gandolfo, a North Canaan native and former contestant on the TV show “MasterChef,” on Saturday, May 28.Lime Rock Park also has a camping area. Salisbury honors veterans in snowy ceremony

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.

North Canaan gives gratitude to veterans

NORTH CANAAN — Students at North Canaan Elementary School saluted servicemen and servicewomen at a Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Eighteen veterans were honored, many of whom attended the ceremony and were connected to the school as relatives of students or staff.

When longtime arts administrator Amy Wynn became the first executive director of the American Mural Project (AMP) in 2018, the nonprofit was part visionary art endeavor, part construction site and part experiment in collaboration.

Today, AMP stands as a fully realized arts destination, home to the world’s largest indoor collaborative artwork and a thriving hub for community engagement. Wynn’s departure, marked by her final day Oct. 31, closes a significant chapter in the organization’s evolution. Staff and supporters gathered the afternoon before to celebrate her tenure with stories, laughter and warm tributes.
