New online forums for Cornwall

CORNWALL — The town’s presence on the Internet is being upped, with a redesign of the www.cornwallct.org website that is run by a community-based committee.

Some changes have already been made. The home page is noticeably different, for instance. The main goal is to make it easier to use on a cell phone or other mobile device. The upgrade is expected to take five to six months.

Cornwall Community Network 2 premiered last week, as a second discussion page aimed at providing a forum on matters of interest to Cornwall residents. Anyone can join, regardless of where they live.

Like the Cornwall Community Network (started in 2001 and now with 540 members), messages are not monitored but civility is expected. Posts cannot be made anonymously.

The new site was started by Richard Griggs on March 15. He said the main difference is that this new site will be moderated by a group, rather than by a single person; and it is supposed to be an open forum where issues important to life in Cornwall can be discussed honestly and openly and constructive criticism offered.

At the Yahoo Groups site, it is also described as a place to discuss both good and bad attributes of local government and business. The goal is that “more Cornwallians will communicate with one another.”
