New program offers advice in planning health care

SHARON — Sharon Hospital introduced its new health and wellness Concierge Program at the Interlaken Inn in Lakeville on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Jill Musselman, director of marketing and public relations for the hospital, explained that the hospital’s concierge program will help guide people to the medical services they need.

“Sometimes, people get lost in the shuffle when it comes to getting health care,†she said. “This program will help people get the services they need. You can call up and describe your health needs, and we can recommend a physician and also offer several options, to help plan a course of action.â€

The Concierge Program is free to the community and is confidential.

Sheila Sutton, who spoke at the event, will be in charge of the new program. She is a registered nurse and a legal nurse consultant. She said she can also help people find health care based on their insurance eligibility, even if they don’t currently have insurance coverage.

“The hospital and myself do not get involved in the care directly, because it’s your choice and your care,†Sutton said. “We’re here to find care for patients and answer their questions.â€

The new program is being started following a financially tough year.

A report on Fiscal 2008 showed that the hospital was down $1 million in net income; wage freezes were made across the board in April. However, Musselman said, the hospital remains healthy.

“Despite the economy, we are continuing to manage well,†she said. “We plan to introduce several programs throughout the year. The Concierge Program will be the first of many.â€

The first reading featured an excerpt from King’s final book, “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?” including the oft-quoted passage: "Returning violence for violence multiples violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”
