Northwestern tennis defeats Litchfield, 3-2


 

The Northwestern boys tennis team won the decisive second doubles match to defeat Litchfield Tuesday, April 29, at Northwestern.

Matt Boisvert and Conor Pickett won their respective singles matches, while the team of Tony Arnold and Paul Kurtz won the deciding doubles match.

With the win, the Highlanders improved to 5-3 in the Berkshire League.


Gilbert prevails

in the rain


The Gilbert golf team came in with a score of 174 to defeat Shepaug (206) and Terryville (216) Monday, April 28, at the Greenwoods Country Club in Winsted.

Playing with a steady rain, Jim Bunel captured medallist honors with a round of 37, followed closely by teammate Adam Vaccari, who came in with a round of 39.


Jackets outlasts

Highlanders, 9-7


The Gilbert boys baseball team scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning and held on to defeat crosstown rival Northwestern Friday, April 25, at Northwestern.

The Jackets banged out 14 hits on the day, including four extra bases. T.J. Monka went 3-4 with a triple and a double. Jason Rotondo was also 3-4 with a double, while Nate Lapointe contributed a double and a single. John Tessman had two hits for the Jackets and drove in a run.

Russell Dougan had two hits for the Highlanders, as did Drew Gordon and Matt Germano, to lead the Highlander attack.

With the victory, the Jackets improved to 5-5 in the Berkshire League, while Northwestern dropped to 6-4 in league play.


Lady Highlanders

defeat Gilbert, 9-1


The Northwestern girls softball team defeated Gilbert Friday, April 25, at Dodge Field in Winsted.

Lauren Alibozek gave up just four hits while striking out eight in a complete game performance for the Highlanders, who remain tied for first place in the Berkshire League with a record of 9-1.

Jessica Shotwell went the distance for the Jackets, while Wizza Miller had a double. The loss dropped the Jackets to 3-6 in the Berkshire League.


Housatonic

sweeps Gilbert


The Housatonic boys tennis team defeated Gilbert, 4-1, Friday, April 25, in Falls Village.

Jordie Smith picked up the lone win for Gilbert.

The girl’s team also beat the Lady Jackets, 3-2, in Winsted.

Sigrid Rafoss and Natasha Owens picked up wins for the Jackets.


Lady Highlanders prevail

over Terryville, 8-7


Liz Snyder drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Northwestern girls softball team defeated Terryville Wednesday, April 23, in Winsted.

Nikki Penn led off the eighth with a single and advanced to third with some heads-up base running following a bunt single by Mary Nelligan to set the stage for Snyder’s sacrifice fly.

Nelligan led the Highlander attack with three hits and two runs scored, while Sarah Lippincott added a two-run homer. Lauren Alibozek went the distance on the mound for Northwestern to pick up the win.

With the victory, the Lady Highlanders remained tied with Lewis Mills for first place in the Berkshire League with a record of 8-1, while Terryville dropped to second place with a record of 7-2.

A three-run triple by freshman Bob Lippincott was the big blow as the Northwestern boys baseball team defeated Terryville Wednesday, April 23, in Terryville.

Lippincott added a run-scoring single, while shortstop Chris Davidson drove in a run with a triple for the Highlanders, who improved to 6-3 in the Berkshire League.


Lady Jackets pound

Wamogo, 24-6 (5)


The Gilbert girls softball team banged out 12 hits as they defeated Wamogo Wednesday, April 23, in Litchfield.

Jess Shotwell picked up the win on the mound for the Jackets. Emily Griswold and Kati LaChance each had a double as the Jackets improved to 3-3 in the Berkshire League.

Senior Jorge Pimentel went the distance as the Gilbert boys baseball team defeated Wamogo Wednesday, April 23, at Walker Field in Winsted.

The Jackets banged out nine hits, including a double by Nate LaPointe, as they improved their record to 4-5 in the Berkshire League.


Thomaston defeats

Gilbert, 3-2


The Thomaston boys tennis team defeated Gilbert Wednesday, April 23, in Thomaston.

Jordie Smith and Greg Hicks picked up singles victories for the Jackets, who remained winless after seven matches.
