Dorothy Alice (Taylor) Paviol

EAST CANAAN — Dorothy Alice (Taylor) Paviol, 88, passed at her home on April 4, 2020. She was the widow of Raymond H. Paviol.

Dorothy was born on Staten Island, N.Y., on Nov. 18, 1931, daughter of the late Marion (Greseck) and John Taylor.

Dorothy worked as a secretary in the office of the first selectman for the Town of North Canaan. She was a fixture in the office from 1964 to 2015. She loved her job.

She enjoyed meeting the folks from town who would come into the office, and helping answer their questions.

She also was an avid knitter. She made scarves, hats and socks.

But her true passion was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Thomas Paviol of East Canaan and his children, Amy and Sarah; Barbara Strattman and her husband, Chip, of East Canaan and their children, Becky and Jessie; Martin Paviol of Florida, and his daughter, Morgan; Nancy Lepore of Cranston, R.I., and her children, FJ and Vinnie; Timothy Paviol and his wife, Linda, of Falls Village, and their children, Alyssa, Zachary and Jacob; her brother, Arthur Taylor of Granby, Conn.; and her eight great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be sent to either the North Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 178, North Canaan, CT 06018, or to the Falls Village Volunteer Ambulance Service, 188 Route 7 South, Falls Village, CT 06031; or to any local food bank.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.
