Pageant beauty from Copake

Copake — Kira Shepard of Copake was selected to participate in the 2014 Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Poughkeepsie/Albany pageant on Sunday, April 27.At 9 years old, Kira will compete against other pre-teens in the Poughkeepsie/Albany area for a “share of thousands of dollars in prizes and specialty gifts” and entry to the national competition, according to a pageant-administered press release.The contest includes modeling routines in both formal and casual wear and an interview with the judging panel. “Personality is the number one aspect that each contestant is judged on during all phases of competition,” the release stated.Kira’s mother, Donna Howay, noted that her daughter’s selection is exciting because Kira has autism.She said that Kira is ecstatic.“She wanted to prove to other girls that even though she has problems, she can do normal things, too,” Howay said.Kira has picked up a number of local sponsors for her training and support, including R&J Caretaking, Motivation Fabrication, Copake Electric, Millerton Fire Company, Paraco Gas, Palumbo Block and several private individuals and families.“Thank you very much to all of those who have contributed; it is greatly appreciated,” Howay said, expressing enthusiasm toward the entire competition.“I believe that it’s really encouraging the girls to be how they are,” she said.The pageant will take place at The Egg in Albany at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 27. Tickets cost $20 and may be purchased at the facility.

Opening on Sept. 26, Agatha Christie’s legendary whodunit “The Mousetrap” brings suspense and intrigue to the Sharon Playhouse stage, as the theater wraps up its 2025 Mainstage Season with a bold new take on the world’s longest-running play.

Running from Sept. 26 to Oct. 5, “The Mousetrap” marks another milestone for the award-winning regional theater, bringing together an ensemble of exceptional local talent under the direction of Broadway’s Hunter Foster, who also directed last season’s production of “Rock of Ages." With a career that spans stage and screen, Foster brings a fresh and suspense-filled staging to Christie’s classic.

Plein Air Litchfield returns for a week of art in the open air

For six days this autumn, Litchfield will welcome 33 acclaimed painters for the second year of Plein Air Litchfield (PAL), an arts festival produced by Art Tripping, a Litchfield nonprofit.

The public is invited to watch the artists at work while enjoying the beauty of early fall. The new Belden House & Mews hotel at 31 North St. in Litchfield will host PAL this year.
