Park Place: Oldest hardware store in Winsted

WINSTED — Nicholas Petrunti, owner of Park Place Hardware, offers a variety of hardware, paint and supplies.

The store is located at 11 Park Place. Petrunti said that the store is the oldest hardware store in the state.

“I am the fourth owner of the store, and I have owned it since 1984,” Petrunti said. “I bought it from the estate of the deceased owner I worked for since 1973, Tommy Nero. Tommy had it from 1949 until 1981. From the records I have it appears that the first owner was M.H. Taner, who has given us a few early records dating back to 1893, but this place could be even older.”

Petrunti said the store has maintained a strong presence in town over the years.

“Our main business is hardware and paint,” he said. “We are service oriented and have been around reliably for people since the 1800s.”

Park Place Hardware is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m, Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to noon.
