Pringle & Zimring to close store on South Center Street

MILLERTON — After about eight years at 57 South Center St., Pringle & Zimring is going exclusively online.According to www.pringleandzimring.com, the business is owned by mother-daughter team Betsy and Stacy Zimring.“Pringle and Zimring is a unique venue that offers an eclectic mix of fabulous home accessories, jewelry and fine gifts all with style and substance for the home, office and garden,” the website states.The store is currently having a liquidation sale, managed by BKHCO INC, a Boston-based liquidation company.“At this point it was not economically feasible to keep the store open,” said BKHCO INC CEO Barton Hyte.Hyte said the goal of the sale is to sell all store inventory in four to five weeks. The sale started Thursday, Oct. 30.“The truth of the matter is this inventory is gorgeous, it’s extremely high quality inventory,” he said, adding that the sale will start with deep discounts — “an opportunity to buy holiday gifts and gifts for the home.”The store’s inventory includes home decor, giftware, linens, jewelry, antiques, lighting, handmade goods, artifacts, ceramics, art and furniture sourced domestically and internationally from trade shows, design centers and manufacturers.According to a BKHCO INC press release regarding the closure and sale, discounts range from 40 to 75 percent off.“I’ve been general manager for years, and the times are changing,” said employee Joe Arroyo.“It’s a sign of the times,” Hyte said, noting a weakened economy for small businesses.The store will remain open through the liquidation sale, Thursdays to Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.For more information on Pringle & Zimring, go to www.pringleandzimring.com.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
