Priscilla Ann Murphy

SHARON — Priscilla Ann Murphy, 54, of Old Route 82 in Livingston, N.Y., died Aug. 24, 2016, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 6, 1962, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Hilda (Hoysradt) and Ralph Sherman.

Priscilla had been employed as a certified nursing assistant at the Great Barrington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, crocheting, watching her children compete at Lebanon Valley Speedway and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

On Oct. 20, 1979, in Pine Plains, she married Thomas H. Murphy Sr., who survives her at home.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Jeanie Murphy of Copake Falls, N.Y., Thomas H. Murphy Jr. of Hudson, N.Y., Jesse Murphy of Elizaville, N.Y., and Christopher Murphy of Ancramdale, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Oliver McCann and Juliet Murphy; her siblings, Barbara Kelly of Copake, N.Y., Raymond Sherman of Dover Plains, Steven Sherman of Gallatin, N.Y., Kathy Sherman of Elizaville, N.Y., and Michael Sherman of Craryville, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Henry Murphy; and a brother, John Sherman.

Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, Sept. 3, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home in Copake.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
