Ronald N. Graves

MILLERTON — Ronald N. Graves, 80, a resident of Millerton for 14 years, died on Dec. 13, 2018, at his home. He previously lived in Brewster, N.Y. 

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., on June 28, 1938, Ron was the son of the late Ruth (Hartung) and Roswell Graves. 

Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He had been employed as a pipe welder with the Operating Engineers for Local 137 in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and Local 15 in New York City until his retirement. 

On April 12, 1969, in LaFayette, N.Y., Ron married Carol (White) Graves, who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Timothy and Joan Graves of Tucson, Ariz., Kevin and Pat Graves of New Fairfield, Conn., Marceleen and Mark Prevatil of Phoenix, Ariz., Heather and Michael Boylston of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., and Denis and Janet Graves of Stormville, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Travis and Dillon, Veronica and Shawn, Joseph and Cassandra, Michael Jr. and Bryan, Abigail, Lily, Tyler, and Connor and Briana; his great-grandchildren, Leo, Wren, Ashlyn, Kinsley and Scarlet; his brother, Lee Graves; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his brothers, Kyle and David Graves.

An avid golfer, Ron also enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to weld. He loved the Lord and his family, and will be remembered by all who knew him for his dedication to serving others. 

In keeping with Ron’s wishes, the family will have a private green burial at Rhinebeck Cemetery. 

Donations may be made in his memory to Hudson Valley Hospice, Inc., Lakeview Community Church, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Born and raised in Sharon, Connecticut, she grew up on her parents’ farm and attended Sharon Center School and Housatonic Valley Regional High School. She went on to study at Skidmore College before moving to New York City, where she married Dr. Harvey Rosen and together they raised two children.

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
