Sharon Day Care Center earns national accreditation

SHARON — Sharon Day Care Center has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

According to their Web site at naeyc.org, the organization, which was founded in 1926, is the world’s largest organization working on behalf of young children.

NAEYC operates several different programs of accreditation that are based on meeting national standards of quality.

According to Roslyn Goldfarb, executive director of Sharon Day Care, the center had to meet the criteria in 400 areas.

“It requires a lot of work and it requires a quality daycare center,†Goldfarb said. “You have to document everything, including what your program is made of and even your manuals.â€

According to the NAEYC Web site, to be accredited, the daycare center must meet standards in relationships between children and adults, curriculum, teaching, assessment of child’s progress, health, teachers, families, community relationships, physical environment, leadership and management.

“The accreditation says that children are getting the highest quality care they can get,†Goldfarb said. “It makes us much more professional. It took us two years to get this accreditation accomplished.â€

The Sharon Day Care Center was started in 1985 and offers day care for children 3 to 9 years of age. It operates out of the lower level of Sharon Center School and serves more than 30 children.
