Sharon Hospital offers to answer reader questions

SHARON, Conn. — Sharon Hospital will join The Lakeville Journal Co. this fall in a new health column, which will run in all three of the company’s newspapers.

The Physician Leadership Council of the hospital wants to fill in a gap left by the death in 2012 of Lakeville physician Peter Gott.

“For over 30 years, Dr. Peter Gott shared medical advice on the pages of The Lakeville Journal and Millerton News, and the medical staff at Sharon Hospital would like to bring that back to the community,” said Mark Marshall, DO, MA, FACP, FHM, chief of staff, and director of Hospitalist Medicine and Palliative Care at the hospital.

“It’s important for us, the Physician Leadership team, to be available to share information regarding the latest advances in medicine and the medical happenings at our hospital,” he added.

The entire Physician Leadership Council agreed to support the reinstitution of the column, which will feature answers to questions sent in by the community.

“Whether you have a question about immunizations or arthritis, or concerns regarding elder care or birthing plans, our physicians are looking forward to answering each and every one,” said Jill Groody Musselman, business development, communications and IT officer for the hospital.

“We have created an email that will direct all questions to my office. The questions will then be brought to the specialist most relevant to the health topic.”

Medical questions and requests for health advice should be emailed to askthemedicalstaff@sharonhospital.com. The column will begin appearing in the pages of The Lakeville Journal, Millerton News and Winsted Journal this fall.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
