Solid start for Housy hockey

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic/Northwestern boys ice hockey team won its first two games of the season. On Wednesday, Dec. 15, the team traveled to The Gunnery and beat Shepaug, 4-0. Tanner Brissett scored one goal and had three assists, Ryan Gawel had three goals and Noah Williams and Ralph Folino both had assists. Joey Bazzano recorded his first shutout with eight saves. The defense of RJ Thompson, Drew Donzella, Noah Williams and Joey Habacker played solidly, keeping the puck out of Housy’s goal most of the night.

On Friday, Dec. 17, Housy/Northwestern  played their first home game at The Hotchkiss School rink, hosting Fitch/ EastLyme/ Ledyard, and came out of the game with a 2-1 victory. Joey Bazzano recorded 16 saves in the net, Ryan Gawel scored two goals, and Noah Williams and Tanner Brissett both had assists.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
