Songs of Love and Spring

KENT, CT — Kent Singers, directed by Marguerite Mullee, will feature songs of love, sorrow, spring and songs by Shakespeare in the April 21 concert, "Poets and Dreamers," at Kent School. The chorus is also premiering a work written for Kent Singers, "Four by Donne," by composer Allen Brings. This music is set to texts by poet John Donne. "Three by Shakespeare," composed by Ralph Vaughn Williams, is a rollicking, engaging set of tunes matched to verse in three of Shakespeare’s plays. Robert Bridges, England’s Poet Laureate during World War I, has seven poems in the concert, all set to music by Gerald Finzi. The concert includes three songs by Felix Mendelssohn, including "Nightingale." And composer Philip Glass’s "A Clear Midnight," by Walt Whitman, rounds out the program.

The concert takes place Saturday, April 21 at 8 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Chapel. Tickets purchased in advance are $15; at the door, $20.
