State Police

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

Head-on collision

Anita Barden, 45, of New Hartford was driving south on Town Hill Road in New Hartford Nov. 5. At about 5:17 p.m., about 10 feet north of Steele Road, she crossed into the northbound lane for an unknown reason. Her 2003 Honda Pilot collided head-on with a 2005 Nissan Altima driven north by Pasqualina Pesce, 67, of Harwinton. There were no injuries. Barden was charged with failure to maintain the proper lane.

Burglary

A burglary was reported Nov. 5 on Beach Road in New Hartford. It is under investigation.

Illegal turn

Dominic Levesque, 17, of Southington, Conn., was driving east on Litchfield Turnpike/Route 202 in New Hartford Nov. 8. At about 5:16 p.m., he began to make a U-turn. His 2010 Toyota Tacoma collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Express van driven east by Michael McGreal, 31, of Bristol, Conn. Both vehicles sustained front-end damage. Levesque and McGreal’s passenger, Natalie McGreal, 3, of Canton, Conn., were taken to UConn Medical Center with possible injuries. Levesque’s passenger, Marlena Cruz, 17, was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with a possible injury. Levesque was charged with making a restricted turn.

Interfering

Jason Northrup, 32, of Norfolk was arrested Nov. 8 on Greenwoods Road East in Norfolk by troopers who were on scene for an unrelated incident. Northrup began to interfere, refused to cooperate and became physically resistant with police. He was charged with interfering with police/non-assaultive. Bond was set at $5,000. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court Nov. 10.

Assault and disorderly

Tyler Labranche, 18, of Barkhamsted was arrested at his Shannon Drive home Nov. 9 after a trooper responded to a report of an active disturbance. He was charged with first-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. Bond was set at $2,000. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Nov. 24.

Warrant arrest

Christopher Link, 48, of Bridgeport was arrested on a warrant Nov. 9 in connection with an incident on Doolittle Drive in Norfolk. The complainant was Stephen Link, 74, of Norfolk. Link was charged with criminal violation of a protective order, breach of peace and second-degree harassment. Bond was set at $5,000. He was to appear in Bantam Superior Court Nov. 10.

Frederick Wright Hosterman

KENT — Frederick Wright Hosterman passed away peacefully in his home in Kent on April 16, 2025. Born in 1929 in Auburn, Nebraska, he was the son of farmers. He attended a one-room schoolhouse just outside of Brownville, Nebraska, adjacent to his family’s farm. The little brick schoolhouse is still standing! After graduating from high school, Fred attended the University of Nebraska (Lincoln), eventually earning a master’s degree in agronomy. He took a job with Monsanto in Buffalo, New York, where the company was a pioneer in applying biotechnology to agricultural sciences. In Buffalo, Fred met his future wife, Dorothy. Fred and Dorothy moved to New York City for several years in the early 1960s, before settling down in Norwalk. In Norwalk, Fred and Dorothy had three children. The family later moved to Kent. In 1980, Fred and Dorothy divorced, and Fred bought a large tract of land on Carter Road in Kent. He built a house there, largely by himself, which he maintained until his death at age 95. After taking early retirement, he spent the following decades working on his property, adding various buildings, woodcrafting, landscaping, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Nancy (Case) Brenner

CANAAN — Nancy (Case) Brenner, 81, of Canaan, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, following a long illness on Good Friday, April 18, 2025.

Nancy was born on April 10, 1944, to the late Ray Sargeant Case Sr. and Beatrice Southey Case. She was the second youngest of five children, predeceased by her three brothers, Ray S. Case Jr., David E. Case and Douglas C. Case, and her sister Linda (Case) Olson. She grew up in New Hartford and Winsted, where she graduated from Northwestern Regional 7 High School.

Adam Rand

SHEFFIELD — Adam Rand, 59, of Sheffield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his home on April 22, 2025, after a long battle with ALS.

Adam was born on April 6, 1966, to Lee and Charles Rand II of Boston, Massachusetts. Adam spent his early childhood in Nantucket, where his love of fishing and water was born before moving to Sharon. It was here where he made many lifelong friends and later graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1984. He attended Hiram College in Ohio before settling in Connecticut.
