The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

 

Car hits fire hydrant and sign

 

Elizabeth Kelly, 48, of New Hartford was driving on Cottage Street near her home March 24. At about 10:19 p.m., as she approached Route 219, her car skidded off the right side of the road. The 2004 Chrysler Concorde hit a fire hydrant and a street sign. It sustained front, left quarter panel damage. Kelly was not injured. No enforcement was noted.

 

Vehicles collide on merge

 

Kasijyn Frost, 32, of Bristol, Conn., was driving west on Route 202 in New Hartford March 27. At about 9:08 a.m., her 2011 Ford E250 hit the mirror on a 2006 Ford FX5 driven by Donald Schmitt, 69,of Columbia, Conn. The vehicles were merging from two to one lane. There were no injuries. The only damage was to the mirror. Frost was given a written warning for improper passing.

 

Stop sign violation

 

Alyssa Gagnon, 19, of New Hartford was driving east on Cotton Hill Road near her home March 27. At about 9:56 a.m., she turned onto Woodchuck Lane without property stopping at a stop sign on Cotton Hill Road. Her 1999 Saturn SL2 hit a 1984 Ford F250 driven by Scott Bauer, 50, of New Hartford. There were no injuries. The Saturn had moderate front bumper damage. The pickup truck had no visible damage. Gagnon was given a written warning for a stop sign violation.

 

Dog hit and killed

 

A roaming dog that ran onto Colebrook Road/Route 183 in Colebrook March 28 was struck and died at the scene. Katherine Dirgo, 90, of Sandisfield, Mass., was driving south on Colebrook Road at about 10:30 a.m. She attempted to avoid the dog. Dirgo was not injured. The dog was removed by the Colebrook Town Crew. The owner was not located. The incident remains under investigation.

 

Rear-end collision

 

Alexandra Ockerbloom, 36, of Granby, Conn., was driving south on Route 318 in Barkhamsted March 31. At about 10:38 a.m., her 2004 Honda Odyssey hit the rear of a 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by Rebecca Sweeney, 37, of Winsted. Sweeney had started to turn right onto Route 44. She had stopped suddenly for traffic when the collision occurred. There were no injuries to the drivers or passengers Gwendolyn Ockerbloom, 12, Derek Ockerbloom, 3, and Annalise Ockerbloom, 5, all of the same Granby address. Ockerbloom was given a written warning for following too closely.

The Becton, Dickinson and Company facility in North Canaan remains closed as of Friday, May 16, due to hazmat response protocol.

Two employees who opened a suspicious package were hospitalized yesterday as a precaution. They have since been released.

Keith Raven Johnson

SHARON — Keith Raven Johnson, a long-time resident of Sharon, died on April 26, 2025, a month after his 90th birthday, at Geer Rehabilitation and Long -Term Care facility in Canaan.

He was born on March 21, 1935, in Ithaca, New York, the son of John Raven Johnson and Hope Anderson Johnson.
