Summer Festival draws crowd, rocks hamlet

Wassaic — Artists, dancers, musicians, movie-makers, campers and patrons descended on Wassaic Friday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 4, for the sixth annual Wassaic Project Summer Festival.“There was an estimated 4,500 people in attendance over the weekend, which is a huge turnout,” said Emily Collins of Bang + Collins Public Relations.Exhibitions were held in several locations including the former Maxon Mills building, the Luther Barn and The Lantern Inn.“The entire weekend was a success and the Wassaic Project is thrilled with how it all went,” Collins said. The weather brought showers as well as sun throughout the weekend, which did not deter campers from filling the field adjacent to Luther Barn.Attendees swam in the creek that runs through the hamlet to stay cool when the sun was down. The Wassaic Rescue Squad was on hand, with thankfully little to do.“The heat has been mild and everyone’s having a safe time,” said volunteer Jeremie Richardson. “It’s been quiet so far, which is all good news.”For more information on upcoming events at The Wassaic Project go to www.wassaicproject.org.
