Superintendent Award - Kent

KENT — Alison Robey is this year’s Superintendent Award winner at Kent Center School (KCS). Described by her teachers as a dedicated student who is consistently on the honor roll, she finds time for numerous school activities in addition to spending ample time on her studies and doing her homework.Alison is in the senior band, jazz band and choral groups and is on the soccer team. She is also the current Student Leadership Council president. She has earned high honors in every term since the fifth grade.She has also achieved Archer Rank in archery, has displayed work in the Regional Art Show and been a member of the Girl Scouts since kindergarten. Because of her positive attitude and civility, Alison is respected by her peers as well as her teachers.When asked what she would like to do when she grows up, Alison responded, “I haven’t the slightest idea yet.” After graduating KCS she plans to attend Kent School, where her father teaches physics.She is the daughter of Kathleen and Stephen Robey.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
