Talk of the Towne moves shoppe

MILLERTON — The Talk of the Towne Deli has moved a bit closer to the center of downtown Millerton.The deli has moved from its previous location in the Thompson Plaza (in the same building as the North East Athletic Club) to the Lotus Building (in the lot adjacent to McDonald’s).The new space is not only more convenient and prominent, but it also offers a lot more atmosphere. Tables are set up outside for comfortable outside seating. The inside seating is well-lit with large, bright windows.“It’s a better spot for us,” said co-owner Mary Hosier, who also noted that the business has already seen an increase in customers, including new customers. She also said that the primary reason for the move was to give the business more room to grow.The deli will continue offering the same services that it has since it first opened. It will offer hot breakfast and lunch items, homemade desserts (including their famous homemade bread pudding), fresh-brewed coffees and teas and Boar’s Head meats by the pound.The deli is open Monday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is closed on Sundays. NORTH CANAAN — Steve Blass Little League AAA baseball opened the 2024 season on Saturday, April 27, with an afternoon match between the Giants and Red Sox.

The Giants stood tall and came out on top with a 15-7 win over their Region One counterparts, the Red Sox. Steve Blass AAA teams are composed of players aged 9 to 11 from Cornwall, Kent, Falls Village, Norfolk, North Canaan, Salisbury and Sharon.

On Tuesday, April 9, The Bardavon 1869 Opera House in Poughkeepsie was the setting for a talk between Elizabeth Lesser and Anne Lamott, with the focus on Lamott’s newest book, “Somehow: Thoughts on Love.”

A best-selling novelist, Lamott shared her thoughts about the book, about life’s learning experiences, as well as laughs with the audience. Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

Hotchkiss students team with Sharon Land Trust on conifer grove restoration

It was a ramble through bramble on Wednesday, April 17 as a handful of Hotchkiss students armed with loppers attacked a thicket of buckthorn and bittersweet at the Sharon Land Trust’s Hamlin Preserve.

The students learned about the destructive impact of invasives as they trudged — often bent over — across wet ground on the semblance of a trail, led by Tom Zetterstrom, a North Canaan tree preservationist and member of the Sharon Land Trust.
