Waterline needs replacing

MILLERTON — A waterline in Wakeman Road needs replacing, according to Working Foreman Larry Merwin.

“We’re losing 30,000 to 40,000 gallons a day is my guess, Merwin said.

Merwin said an estimate to do the work came in at $57,000 from one company.  Materials alone will cost roughly $35,000.

“If we do it ourselves, we can lay the pipe in a couple of days, Merwin said, adding that to do the rest of the work could take upward of two weeks. However, according to Merwin, the engineer at the Department of Health said that it may be closer to a month before the repairs can be made.

“This has to be done. There is no negotiating this, it’s something that has to be done, said Mayor John Scutieri. “If that’s something that our crew can do it makes sense to do it.

Merwin said he will get the project started as soon as is possible.
