Webutuck’s new website goes live

WEBUTUCK — The North East (Webutuck) Central School District has officially completed its transition to its new website. While the www.webutuckschools.org address remains the same, a very apparent facelift has happened to the site.“I think the best word to describe the experience on the site now is ‘customized.’ It’s really catered to the user now,” said Technology Director Craig Trachtenberg.According to Trachtenberg, the best way to experience all the site has to offer is to simply log in.“You can go to the site and it’s way better. But the best experience you get is from getting a key-code, creating an ID and password and then you will get a menu custom tailored for you,” he said. For students, the customization includes a list of their teachers, as opposed to sifting through an entire staff list, links to pages for the activities and sports the individual is involved in and news pertaining to their specific school building.Parents with multiple children will be able click a menu for each child that caters to their teachers, activities and building.“The thing that makes this work is to have more and more people participate. We want to see the clubs updating their pages with news, the teachers using the pages for information and the parents getting involved. The more it gets used, the better the experience,” Trachtenberg said. The site also features a district page for important news concerning all of the buildings and students.“You’ll see things like our school closings and major announcements there. Each principal also has the page for their building, so there will be some cross-over. For example, student physicals are coming up, so that information is all over the site,” he said.Trachtenberg is hoping to see the site run smoother as time goes on.“With any new technology there’s going to be kinks. We had some issues last week that parents may have seen. We just ask that everyone bear with us as the site is so new. Some things are done on the back end that are more complicated. And they are bugs that need a real fix. That can take some time, but we’re completely dedicated to keeping the information available. We’re working really hard on this,” he said.Anyone can visit the site at www.webutuckschools.org.Webutuck parents, staff and students interested in obtaining a key-code can reach out to their school’s secretaries.“We’ll help walk anyone through the process of making an ID and getting started. It’s really easy to do and we’re encouraging everyone to do it,” Trachtenberg said.

KENT – The cold temperatures and biting winds didn’t deter a crowd from gathering for the annual Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Standing in front of the memorials honoring local residents who served in the military, First Selectman Martin Lindenmayer, himself a veteran, said the day is “not only a time to remember history, but to recognize the people among us—neighbors, friends and family—who have served with courage, sacrifice and devotion. Whether they stood guard in distant lands or supported their comrades from home, their service has preserved the freedoms we enjoy each day.”
