Webutuck improving, but scoring gap remains

WEBUTUCK — The bad news is that Webutuck’s boys varsity basketball team moved a game closer to a winless season, falling 21-49 to Pine Plains. But head coach Sal Rosa was looking at the loss in a positive light.

“We’ve definitely improved this season,” Rosa said. “Last time we played Pine Plains I think we lost by 38. This time we lost by 28. Every game we’ve gotten better.”

High scorers for Webutuck (now 0-15) during the loss were Andrew Schultz with 10 points and Matt Matteo with seven. Rosa said that compared to the beginning of the season, when his team was losing by 60 or 70 points a game, Webutuck has really turned around.

“The last component we’re missing is shooting,” he said. “We’re fairly young, we only have one senior on the team. So this is definitely a growing year.”

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
