Winsted man pleads guilty to possessing child porn

WINSTED — Winsted resident and middle school teacher Damon Papp, 41, pled guilty to charges of child pornography possession in Litchfield Superior Court on Friday, Feb. 17.Papp was arrested last May by the Winchester Police Department at his home on 149 Pratt St. and was charged with possession of child pornography in the first degree.According to a statement issued by Police Chief Robert Scannell, Papp was arrested after a three-month investigation by officers from both Winchester and Watertown police departments affiliated with the Internet Crimes against Children (ICAC) Task Force.Prior to his arrest, Papp had been working as a teacher at Eli Terry Jr. Middle School in Terryville.He also served as an esteemed leading knight at the Winsted Elks Lodge and previously worked as a program supervisor for the Summer Playground and Adventure program in Torrington.Papp will be sentenced in late May in Litchfield Superior Court.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
