Writers receive feedback at Passiflora

NEW HARTFORD — The Passiflora Writer’s Club meets at the restaurant, located at 526 Main St., every third Thursday of the month at 7 p.m.According to group member Josh Brunetti, the group was started by Isabel Carrington.Carrington attended a writer’s group at The Pantry in Washington Depot and wanted to start something similar closer to where she lived.Brunetti said restaurant owner Karen Tyson gave Carrington permission to start the group. He said that he has led the group after Carrington stepped down due to her schedule. At each meeting the writers read poetry and stories they have written.“We introduce ourselves each time, even if most of us already know each other,” Brunetti said at a meeting on Thursday, Jan. 15. “I encourage people to let us know where they are at as a writer and where they want to go. If you are not a writer, and you don’t have anything to share, you’re still welcome. We try to keep readings to the length of one short story or a couple of poems.” “The wide range of ages of writers and their ranges of literature is a great thing and to be able to branch out and learn about different media we may not have been exposed to before is great,” Winsted Journal freelancer and group member Ryan Callinan said. “The feedback I have received has been very helpful.”For more information about the group call Passiflora at 860-379-8327.
