31 February calls answered

The Salisbury Volunteer Ambulance Service (SVAS) is an all-volunteer organization whose members are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to emergencies in the community. SVAS responded to 31 calls in February, which was the same number as in the previous month. These included five calls for a sick person, five falls, three for pain, one difficulty breathing, one seizure, one cardiac event, one motor vehicle accident and one for an unconscious person. In addition there were seven standbys (for the ski jumps and Junior Olympics) and one activated fire alarm.There were six days when the ambulance crew responded two times, one day they went out three times and one day they responded four times. Eight of the calls were for residents of Noble Horizons.The Sunday of the Ski Jump weekend the squad held a pancake breakfast fundraiser. There were 399 breakfasts served.This is the 40th anniversary of volunteer emergency medical service provided by SVAS. To mark the occasion, the Salisbury Association has an exhibit featuring photos, rosters and memorabilia documenting the organization’s history. An opening reception was held March 26. The exhibit is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., through April 17. Opening on Sept. 26, Agatha Christie’s legendary whodunit “The Mousetrap” brings suspense and intrigue to the Sharon Playhouse stage, as the theater wraps up its 2025 Mainstage Season with a bold new take on the world’s longest-running play.

Running from Sept. 26 to Oct. 5, “The Mousetrap” marks another milestone for the award-winning regional theater, bringing together an ensemble of exceptional local talent under the direction of Broadway’s Hunter Foster, who also directed last season’s production of “Rock of Ages." With a career that spans stage and screen, Foster brings a fresh and suspense-filled staging to Christie’s classic.

Plein Air Litchfield returns for a week of art in the open air

For six days this autumn, Litchfield will welcome 33 acclaimed painters for the second year of Plein Air Litchfield (PAL), an arts festival produced by Art Tripping, a Litchfield nonprofit.

The public is invited to watch the artists at work while enjoying the beauty of early fall. The new Belden House & Mews hotel at 31 North St. in Litchfield will host PAL this year.
