52 Main brings tapas to town

MILLERTON — Main Street in Millerton has long been a hot spot for trendy eateries and adding to the variety is 52 Main, a new tapas bar co-owned by Eleanor Nurzia Gabrielson and her husband, Kurt Gabrielson.Tapas are traditional Spanish dishes in smaller portions, similar to appetizers.Eleanor Gabrielson wanted to bring tapas to Millerton and add an American twist to the cuisine.“There’s a real weekender scene here in town, which is great, but we want to be a year-round spot,” she said. “What about the local firemen, teachers, town and village governments and librarians? The backbone of a community. We wanted to create a spot where people could come in year round and enjoy a snack or a full meal.”The restaaurant owner is passionate about the variety afforded by eating in a tapas bar.“It’s great because you can come in for a snack and a drink or come in and eat a full meal. It’s fun to share a couple dishes with friends, try something new or you could order something more familiar, like our sliders and fries, and fill up on what you know you like,” she said.Inside 52 Main customers are greeted with a sleek yet comfortable atmosphere.“We really had a vision of a comfortable yet classy place where anyone can come to enjoy fun, quality food,” she said.Eleanor Gabrielson was also conscious of the economy when opening her restaurant.“We know that a lot of people don’t have large disposable incomes anymore. If you’re choosing to spend your hard-earned money and go out to eat then we wanted to give you the best food and the best drinks for your money. Tapas is great, too, because you can go out to eat and not necessarily order a huge meal. You can treat yourself to a quality snack,” she said.52 Main is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 10 p.m., Fridays from 4 to 11 p.m., Saturdays from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.“We offer a really great Sunday brunch and are working with local musicians to have live music, as a backdrop for Saturday nights and for Sunday brunch,” Gabrielson said. For more information or to browse the menu, visit www.52Main.com.
