A blazing good time on a hot, sunny Fourth of July

LAKEVILLE — Somehow, the weather always seems to be perfect for the Fourth of July. This year’s celebration, on Sunday, benefited from the usual blue skies and temperatures that were warm enough to make spending the day at the beach seem like a very good idea.

The Salisbury Band presented its annual concert at the Lakeville Grove, on a grassy shaded spot next to the soon-to-be-completed Grove recreation building.

As always, Lou Bucceri dressed up in Colonial-era garb and took on the character of Heman Allen, brother of Ethan. In stentorian tones, he recited the Declaration of Independence.

The rest of the day was devoted to more frivolous doings for most area residents, making it a true (and truly lovely) holiday.

Lesser, an author and co-founder of the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, interviewed Lamott in a conversation-like setting that allowed watchers to feel as if they were chatting with her over a coffee table.

Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
