Bouchard chosen as mayor

WINSTED — First-term Selectman Candace Bouchard was chosen as the town’s new mayor at the Board of Selectmen’s special meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

The vote to choose Bouchard as mayor was along party lines, with Republican Selectmen Glenn Albanesius, Jorge Pimentel, Daniel Langer and Bouchard herself all voting for Bouchard.

Democratic Selectmen George Closson, Steven Sedlack and Candy Perez all voted for Sedlack.

Bouchard has lived in Winsted since November 2009. She was first elected to town office during the November 2013 municipal election.

At last year’s municipal election she received the fourth most amount of votes behind fellow Republicans Lisa Smith, Daniel Langer and Robert Vogt.

There was no applause from the audience of more than 50 residents after the vote was taken.

After the meeting, Bouchard said she is looking forward to serve as mayor.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone to move the town forward,” Bouchard said. “I just think we’re all going to get acquainted with each other. Another change has happened on the board, but I think we are all willing to move forward.”

With Bouchard chosen as mayor, the town has now had three mayors in less than a year.

Smith was voted as mayor after the last municipal election. However, she resigned in April after serving for five months.

Smith did not give a reason why she resigned at the time of her resignation, nor did she give a reason in her endorsement letter sent a few weeks ago to The Winsted Journal.

After Smith stepped down, Marsha Sterling, who did not run for office in the last municipal election, was appointed by the remaining board in April.

Sterling was voted out during a special election held on Sept. 13.
