Brothers create haunted house on Oak Street

WINSTED — A group of residents held a haunted house at their home on Oak Street on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The haunted house is a well-known stop for many trick-or-treaters on Halloween night in town.

Co-organizer Tony Padin said that he and his brother Robert started the tradition 15 years ago.

Padin said that preparations started in August as they began  decorating the yard and the haunted house itself.

At the event, the brothers transformed their front lawn into a ghostly graveyard. After being followed by zombie walkers up the driveway, visitors are then led into the main attraction.

As visitors walked through a maze inside the building, they were frightened by various monsters and ghouls.

Lighting, and a lack of lighting in some places, combined with a sinister soundtrack, added to the ambience.

Deep inside the haunted house, volunteers hand out candy to those who were brave enough to enter.

“There’s not much for people to do around here, including for the kids in town,” Padin said. “We try to give them something. I hope that we can keep this tradition going for as long as we are able to.”

All actors are local residents who volunteered to play different monsters.
