Bubbles and Truffles party Feb. 10

WINSTED — It will be a bubbly fun time on Friday, Feb. 10, in the Laurel Room of the Whiting Mills building at the corner of Whiting Street and Holabird Avenue, during the sixth annual Bubbles and Truffles wine and chocolate tasting. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with a snow date of Saturday, Feb. 11. There will be a live band, eight wine vendors and a beer table, as well as various types of chocolates and finger foods.Fran Delaney, president of Friends of Main Street, said the event is a major fundraiser for the organization.“We wanted to have a fundraiser that had much more appeal than simply a wine-tasting event,” Delaney said. “It seems that fundraisers have become saturated with wine tastings. We wanted to add more flair by offering chocolate selections. We like the idea of holding this during the winter when it gives people an opportunity to go out and do something.”The event also happens just in time for Valentine’s Day, and attendees can order special wines and boxes of chocolate at the party.Delaney said that the organization is still in the process of booking vendors for the event, and the full list will be released soon.“We want to give people a chance to do something special that will not cost them an arm and a leg,” Delaney added.Tickets for the event are $25 in advance and $35 at the door. For more information call 860-738-3351, stop in at Friends of Main Street’s office at 398 Main St. or visit www.foms.org.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.
